Blessings this Week: 02.05.2016 Edition

Sometimes, blessings look like surprises or divine appointments from God. And sometimes, they look like snowstorms.

He tends to do that, God. He chooses the unexpected, the sometimes messy, and works all of it for our good.

Here's what He's been up to this week....

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

This past weekend was a big celebration in our area... in which thousands of grown adults act like fools on the ice.

Grown-ups playing broomball. And onlookers.

Like this bunch of wahoos.

Races on four-wheelers, dirtbikes (yes, dirtbikes), and various other small motors. It was really, really fun to watch.

The weekend was even more fun because we had these two to share it with-- Trevor's cousin and his lovely girlfriend. (Shoes shown.)

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

The weather over the weekend was incredible. It was 30+ degrees the whole time, and the snow actually started to melt away on Sunday. It was the perfect weather for a big celebration.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

... That warm weather didn't last long.

We got about 10 inches of snow this week (we get it, it's winter...) with the classic rural Iowa blowing and big drifts.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

The people who came and diligently clear our road (all the way up to our driveway) are such blessings.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

And I'm also really blessed that my husband doesn't mind driving us home through this.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

The little bunny rabbit hiding under our deck.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

With all that snow, we had no choice but to have a snow day home from work.

Which was made even more wonderful by this...

We've had our fireplace going for about a week- talk about perfect timing.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

Now that our living room is mostly done, we also got to welcome back our less cuddly pets.

Tucker Turtle and the fish (hey, good band name) are back living with us. We're so grateful for their "foster families" who have been caring for them for a year.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

The sound of the wind during the storm- the whistle and howl- and knowing that we were safe and warm.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

Heavy equipment. We are very grateful for heavy equipment. (Because we would not have made it out of the driveway without it.)

THIS WEEK

In case you missed it!

Let's go right ahead and be honest. Sometimes, reading the Bible is really, really hard. Between confusing stuff, no motivation, no time, just plain being bored... we all have excuses not to do the very thing we know we should be doing.

Join me on a walk to getting to know the Bible better- starting by signing up for a weekly Scripture reading list- Sweeter than Honey- that's e-mailed out to you once a week.

I am really, really excited for this.

So, Wait, What Are You Doing to Your Farmhouse?

Oh, you mean, besides EVERYTHING? (Just kidding). I'm filling in the details and showing you the progress in this post here.

Have a great week- and count those blessings.

  1. My husband lived in Minnesota before we married and played on a broom all team. I never got to see him play, but I wish I could have. Crazy people those northern people are. I guess when you live in a place that is below freezing half the year, it's. Best to find a way to enjoy it.
For me, this winter, I am grateful that we have managed to avoid all big snowstorms so far.
Glad you were able to finally bring your pets home. :)
