I'm Ally, and I'm glad you're here!
(That's me.) (That's not my horse.)
An accidental country girl, I often find myself wondering how I ended up putting down roots in rural Iowa and living on a 21-acre hobby-farm-to-be.
My husband Trevor and I work at a Bible Camp ministry that's busy in the summer and busy in the winter, where we're blessed to share the love of God behind-the-scenes and in very practical ways.
I hate climbing up or down ladders, I'm a terrible nail-biter, and I'm constantly working on giving myself grace.
I really love blogging (which, yeah, is why I'm here), starting new projects without thinking them through, and drinking lots and lots of coffee. Trevor's hobbies include going to Menards, riding motorcycles and dirt bikes, and generally being the best guy I've ever known.
"So, what's your goat's name?"
We don't have a goat- not yet anyway. See this post here to find out why this site is named The Speckled Goat, even though we don't have any goats.
There's a saying that goes, "God works in mysterious ways."
But I'd also say that God works in surprising ways. I'm learning that God blesses me in ways that often look... imperfect. Messy. Speckled. And often, I miss the blessings because they don't look the way I thought they would.
Maybe you feel the same way.
Maybe you struggle to find contentment right where you are. Maybe you tend to focus on the things you don't have rather than the things you do have. Like mine, maybe your life is full of stress and struggle and never having quite enough time.
I don't think it has to be that way.
I don't think it's supposed to be that way.
I don't have all the answers, or, you know, any of the answers. I'm muddling through this life, seeking truth, trying to find the goodness through the mess, the miraculous in the mundane, the blessings in the imperfections.
Sometimes I get a glimpse. A glimpse of how God works in surprising, unexpected, messy, speckled ways.
I also own and curate a directory of Christian blog posts organized by book of the Bible, called Blogging through the Bible.
I've provided several posts to Blogs by Christian Women, and I am honored to occasionally be a contributing writer at Amateur Nester.
I also am a part of the Faithful Bloggers Network
