In Season: Finding the Fruit

I’m in a season right now. A season when fruit seems hard to come by. I often feel unproductive- like my spiritual legacy is stunted somehow by my physical infertility. It’s barren time- or it certainly seems that way.

I think many of us have been there. Whether we've walked a road of infertility (like mine), or suffered losses and grief, stagnation, difficult marriages, unfulfilled dreams- it’s easy to feel like our lives offer little fruit.

The Bible tells us a different story. Simply by the fact of our belief in Christ, by his grace that covers us and makes us new, the Holy Spirit produces fruit in our lives- as messy and broken and dry as they may seem.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. - Galatians 5:22-23
The Fruit of the Spirit is always in season.

In fact, it's often in those hard times- in the dry times, the barren times- when we find that Fruit growing in abundance.

I’m learning. I’m learning to see the fruit that the Holy Spirit is miraculously growing on my barren-looking tree.

I'm counting those blessings, I'm doing the hard work... but it's only by the grace of God and the Holy Spirit working in my life that I'm producing a harvest.

But don't take my word for it.

For the next few months, I've invited some friends to share their stories- to share how the Holy Spirit is bringing about fruit in each of their lives.

And I'm so very excited about it! Because these stories, the life-changes and the work of growing and the fruit these brothers and sisters in Christ are producing - is beautiful. Is a blessing. And I'm so honored to feature their bountiful blessings and fruit in Christ!

Each week, for the next nine weeks, we'll be talking about one of the products of the Holy Spirit that Paul identified in Galatians- and each of these lovely ladies (and gentleman!) will write about how they've seen a harvest of His fruit in their lives.

To make sure you catch them all, you can follow my page on Facebook (where I'll put up links to each of these posts), or you can also follow the In Season Pinterest board.

Like I said, I'm excited!

So stick with us. It's going to be great.

  5. Great idea - I look forward to seeing these stories. Once upon a long time ago, I was in a situation that I didn't have any control over. It involved a temporary loss of my daughter. At the time, I needed a scriptural reference - a story of someone else who lost their child. I found the brief mention of Moses' mother - who built a boat to keep her son safe in a situation she couldn't otherwise control. I found there were things I could do that ran ' parallel' to my situation - things I could do that helped me stay focused and attentive to what I could control, that would ready me should the situation change. I called those things 'building boats'. They kept me sane. It sounds like you're doing a great job building boats in your life. Hugs. Janet
