Blessings this Week: 05.13.2016 Edition

There is a lemon on my desk at work.

See, here's the thing about gratitude. That lemon on my desk could just be a lemon on my desk.

Or, if I recognize it as a blessing, it can be a reminder that makes me smile. That lemon can be a reminder that God loves me- that little bits of sunshine are everywhere, even on rainy days- that I've got great friends who share lemons.

It's a perspective thing.

When I take the time to count my blessings, I find myself recognizing them more often. Seeing the small things that make life beautiful and good and full.

This past weekend, I had a great time planning a party for my parents' anniversary. I think my favorite part of the whole thing was getting to work on something with all of my sisters.

Well, that might have been my second favorite part.

Because you really can't compete with these cheeks:

(That's my youngest nephew and my sister. So fun to see them).

We've been asparagus hunting!

And by "hunting," I mean, walking through our grove and neighboring ditch.

So yummy!

(Anybody got any good recipes?)

The whole staff at work was treated to lunch by a dear friend of Camp... double yum and super generous.

My ten-year-tree plan is coming along swimmingly- look at those little leaves!

It's been another rainy week, but fortunately, by the afternoon every day, the sun was out. Everything's muddy, but the plants are growing and fields are getting that fuzzy green look of new sprouts.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

Yesterday, we were hunting for asparagus and found a clutch of pheasant eggs in the grass- so neat to see.

We are the half-way point for these two little sweeties- they're going from their mama (and their mama's wonderful owner, who happens to be our co-worker) to some friends of ours, where they'll be loved and probably dressed up in dolly outfits.

But for now, I get to enjoy these sweet little faces. Too cute!

THIS WEEK

In case you missed it, this week on The Speckled Goat...

The Bible can be confusing, but I think we just don't use many of the resources we have at our disposal. I talked a bit about commentaries (and also about being homesick in college...) this week.

We also ventured away from my usual Bible-related posts and talked a little bit about the party I threw for my parents' anniversary- a retro camper themed party! It was fun.

This weekend, don't forget to find those blessings-- they're everywhere-- as close as a lemon on your desk!

  1. I do my asparagus sauteed in butter and garlic, then add soy sauce. I cook it until tender crisp. My whole family loves it this way. Great post. Love your pictures and your reminders of things to be thankful for! - Amy

  2. YUM! Asparagus is so tasty. I especially love it oven-roasted in olive oil, garlic and diced red onion. Delicious!
